Are ChatGPT dots, GPT dots and OpenAI dots the same thing?

Yes. They’re different names people use for the same product. OpenAI calls the product dots and each agent a dot.

How is a dot different from a normal ChatGPT chat?

A chat works while you’re in it. A dot keeps working between conversations on its own computer, can research in the background, and can be reached in Slack, Teams and by text as well as in ChatGPT.

Can I have more than one dot?

You start with one. OpenAI says you’ll later be able to pay a fixed monthly fee to add more dots.

Not on free ChatGPT. Your first dot is included at no extra cost with Pro and Business Premium.

Which plans include dots?

Pro and Business Premium include one dot. Enterprise users can try a beta if their workspace admin enables it. Free and Plus aren’t included at launch.

Does using my dot count toward my ChatGPT limits?

Conversations with your dot don’t. Tasks it starts in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. For the first month, dots usage also doesn’t count toward Pro, Business and Enterprise plan allowances.

How much will extra dots cost?

No price has been announced. OpenAI says a fixed monthly add-on for more dots, or more speed and capacity, is coming.

Is dots available in the UK and Europe?

Not for Pro at launch: Pro excludes the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Business Premium works in all supported ChatGPT regions.

Can I use dots on my phone?

You can talk to your dot in the ChatGPT mobile app once mobile access reaches you, but you can only create a dot on desktop. Mobile web isn’t supported.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. Dots isn’t available to users under 18.

I’m eligible. Why don’t I have it yet?

Dots is rolling out gradually and access can take several days to reach your account.

How do I set up my dot?

Open the ChatGPT desktop app or ChatGPT in a desktop browser and follow the onboarding prompts. You’ll name it, choose an avatar and connect apps.

What is my dot’s handle?

By default it’s @yourname-dot. When you give your dot a name, it becomes @yourname-agentname.

Can my dot use my own computer?

Only if you allow it. Local access is off by default; you connect a computer from the ChatGPT desktop app and can revoke access at any time.

Can my dot use Codex?

Yes. It can create tasks in Codex cloud environments. Create the environment in Codex first.

Can I connect my dot to Slack or email?

You can connect Slack (set up from desktop) and your personal email account. At launch you can’t give your dot its own email address.

How do I text my dot?

Texting is a limited beta for Pro users in the US, run by a third-party provider. If you have it, connect your phone from the desktop app. Reply STOP to stop texts.

How do I schedule tasks?

Ask your dot for a reminder or recurring check, then manage it under Scheduled in your dot’s profile.

Are there official dots templates?

No. OpenAI’s Help Center has no template feature. You describe tasks in plain language; custom rules and scheduled tasks are the closest thing to reusable setups.

Does my dot share memory with ChatGPT?

Yes, in both directions. Turning off Memory in ChatGPT stops the sharing but doesn’t delete what your dot already received.

Can I see or delete what my dot remembers?

Not individually. Deleting (resetting) your dot deletes its own context.

What happens if I disconnect an app?

New access stops, but information your dot already obtained stays in its context until you delete the dot.

What does resetting my dot delete?

Its conversations, saved memories and scheduled tasks. Files, Codex threads and ChatGPT conversations it created are stored separately and aren’t deleted.

Is my data used for training?

Not by default on Business, Enterprise and Edu. On personal plans, the “Improve the model for everyone” setting decides.

What can my dot do without asking?

Read what it has access to, analyse and draft. Sending messages, sharing files and purchases need authorisation; deleting data or installing unknown software is confirmed each time.

Can my dot change my passwords or move money?

No. Those steps are always handed back to you to complete yourself.

Does my dot see my passwords?

Not for supported sign-ins: credentials go straight to the browser environment and stay out of the model’s context.
