OpenAI dots pricing: what it costs and whether it’s free
Dots doesn’t have its own price tag. Your first dot comes with ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, and for the first month its usage doesn’t count toward your plan’s limits. Here’s what that means in dollars.

Which plans include a dot
OpenAI says your Pro or Business Premium plan includes your first dot at no extra cost (OpenAI). The prices below are ChatGPT plan prices, not a separate fee for dots.

About the “$200” and “$500” headlines
Does dots usage count toward my limits?
- Conversations with your dot don’t count toward your ChatGPT usage limits (OpenAI).
- Tasks it starts in Codex or ChatGPT Work do count, the same as if you had started them yourself.
- The first month is free of allowances: for the month after launch, dots usage won’t count toward eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise plan allowances. OpenAI will share per-plan usage terms after that (OpenAI Help Center).
- Your plan also includes capacity for deeper work, with higher limits during the first month (OpenAI).
How to get your included dot
Check your plan
Pro or Business Premium. On Enterprise, ask your workspace admin to turn the beta on.
Open ChatGPT on a computer
Use the ChatGPT desktop app (Mac or Windows) or a desktop browser, then go to chatgpt.com/dots (official site, opens in a new tab) (official).
Follow the onboarding

Is it worth paying for?
This is our own judgement, not OpenAI’s:
Probably yes if…
- You already pay for Pro: the dot costs nothing extra.
- You have recurring work spread across Slack, email and docs.
- You’ll use the first month to test it properly.
Wait if…
- You’d upgrade from Plus just for dots.
- You’re on Pro in the UK, EEA or Switzerland (not included yet).
- You need to know the post-launch usage terms first.
Frequently asked questions
Is OpenAI dots free?
Not on free ChatGPT. Your first dot is included at no extra cost with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, and for the first month after launch dots usage doesn’t count toward eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise plan allowances.
How much does an extra dot cost?
OpenAI hasn’t announced a price. It says that in the future you’ll be able to pay a fixed monthly fee to add more dots, or to increase how fast your dot works and how much it can take on.
Does talking to my dot use up my Pro limits?
No. OpenAI says conversations with your dot don’t count toward your ChatGPT usage limits. Tasks your dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work still count toward your limits as usual.
Is dots included in ChatGPT Plus?
No. At launch dots is rolling out to Pro and Business Premium, plus Enterprise as an admin-enabled beta. Free and Plus aren’t included.
What happens after the first month?
OpenAI says it will share usage terms for each plan after the first month. We’ll update this page when those terms are published.
